Sustainable communities agenda
Sustainable communities embody the principles of sustainable development at the local level.
Delivering genuinely sustainable communities requires a joined-up approach which brings together social, economic and environmental considerations. It requires a distinctive approach to the way services are planned and delivered.
There are several policy papers around these approaches, but the most notable are:
- Sustainable Communities: Building for the Future, February 2003
- The Egan Review: Skills for Sustainable Communities, April 2004
Inspire East is the regional centre of excellence for sustainable communities in the East of England. If you would like more information about sustainable communities you can visit Inspire East’s website.
